Machu Picchu & the Amazons 10 days

Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It forms a contiguous urban area with the seaport of Callao.

Day 1 - Arrival in Lima

A representative will meet you at the airport in Lima and provide transfers to Hotel San Agustin Exclusive

Day 2 – Flight Lima to Juliaca

Breakfast at Hotel; you will be picked up at Hotel at 10:30am for transfers to Lima's airport for your flight to Juliaca. Upon arrival in Juliaca, you will be transfer Hotel Afternoon at leisure. Overnight at Sol Plaza Puno or similar-Puno
Lake Titicaca: is a lake located on the border of Bolivia and Peru. It sits 3,812 m (12,507 ft) above sea level making it the highest commercially navigable lake in the world.[1] By volume of water it is also the largest lake in South America.

Day 3Tour Uros Taquiles

Breakfast at Hotel; you will be picked up from your hotel at 6:45 AM.
Tour Uros + Taquiles + Lunch in Taquiles; Return to Puno in the afternoon.
Overnight at your Hotel Sol Plaza or similar - Puno
Cuzco: Carries the title of the archeological capital of America with proud, because there is no other place in the whole continent where you easily can reach ruins of a amazing culture, which are still in a good condition.
The contrast between autochthon and western, history and present gives Cuzco its special beauty.

Day 4Puno /Cuzco

Breakfast at Hotel
Today you will be transferred from Puno to Cuzco.
Eight hours bus ride to Cuzco, across the scenic high Andes landscapes only dotted by small villages and herds of the llamas and vicuñas. During the long drive you will experience visits to 3 archaeological places and buffet lunch. Upon arrival in Cuzco transfer to your hotel Overnight at Hotel Samay Cusco or Similar.

Day 5 – City Tour

Breakfast at Hotel.
Morning at leisure to rest from previous day. In the afternoon you will embark on a city tour of Cuzco at 1:00 PM. You will visit the Qoricancha (temple of the sun). The tour drives along the Circumvallation Road up to famous fortress of Sacsahuaman, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.
07:45PM Diner Show at Restaurant Don Antonio in Cuzco.
Overnight at Hotel Samay Cuzco or similar
Machu Picchu: The most important of all because of its worldwide reputation. For a lot of people it is the eighth wonder of the world, a demonstration of the wisdom of a culture capable of building a citadel using giant stones, perfectly fitted one of top of the other, in a place which is difficult to reach.

Day 6 – Cuzco Machu Picchu

Breakfast at Hotel.
Check out 6:00am (leave luggage at the hotel storage).
At 6:30am you must be at the LOBBY OF HOTEL for transfer to Train station.
Bus Cuzco/Aguas Calientes
10:54am arrive Aguas Calientes.
12:30pm Buffet lunch at the "HANNAQPACHA" Restaurant. (Everyone must meet at the restaurant). Afternoon at leisure for optional tours in Aguas Calientes.
7:00pm briefing for next day tour to Machu Picchu Ruins.
Overnight at Santuario Hotel or similar

Day 7 - Breakfast ready from 4:30am to 9:00am.
At 7:00am you must be at the LOBBY OF HOTEL to start our adventure in Machu Picchu Ruins.
7:10am Bus Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu. 7:35am arrival Machu Picchu Ruins.
Guided tour from 7:45am to 10:15am, rest of the day free to visit the ruins on your own or take the optional tours in Machu Picchu Ruins.
At 04:30 pm you must be ready at the LOBBY OF HOTEL for transfer to train station.
Train Aguas Calientes / Cuzco 5:00 pm
Arrival Cuzco at 9:45 pm .Transfer from train station to hotel
Rest of the night on your own. Overnight at Hotel Samay Cuzco

Day 8 – Cuzco - Puerto Maldonado
Breakfast at Hotel Transfer from the hotel to the Cuzco airport.
Arrival and Reception. Upon arrival from Cuzco, we will welcome you at the airport and drive you ten minutes to our Puerto Maldonado headquarters. While enjoying your first taste of the forest in our gardens we will ask you to pack only the necessary gear for your next few days, and leave the rest at our safe deposit. This helps us keep the boats and cargo light.
Puerto Maldonado to Tambopata River Port. Skirting Puerto Maldonado, we drive 20 kilometers to the Tambopata River Port, entering the Native Community of Inferno. The port is a communal business.
Boxed Lunch.
Tambopata River Port to Posada Amazons. The forty five minute boat ride from the Tambopata Port to Posada Amazons will take us into the Community’s Primary Forest Private Reserve.
Orientation. Upon arrival, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips.
Canopy tower: A twenty minute walk from Posada Amazons leads to the 30 meter scaffolding canopy tower. A banister staircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. From atop you obtain spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest cut by the Tambopata River winding through the middle. Now and then toucans, parrots or macaws are seen flying against the horizon, or mixed species canopy flocks land in the treetop next to you.
Dinner.Ecotourism Lecture. A daily presentation on the Inferno ecotourism project is available every night from a staff member.Overnight in Posada Amazons.

Day 9:

Breakfast. Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake: Tres Chimbadas is thirty minutes by boat and forty five minutes hiking from Posada Amazons. Once there you will paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin and horned screamers. Otters are most active from dawn to eight or nine AM.
Parrot clay lick: This clay lick is only a twenty minute walk from Posada Amazons. From a blind located about twenty meters away you will see dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a river bank. Species such as Mealy and Yellow- headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky headed Parakeet descend at this clay lick. The clay lick is most active at dawn and during the late mornings and mid-afternoons.
Lunch.
Ethno botanical Tour: A twenty minute boat drive downriver leads you to a trail designed by the staff of the Centro Ñape. The Centro Ñape is a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients who choose their little clinic. They have produced a trail which explains the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants.
Dinner. Night walk. You will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active but rarely seen. Much easier to find are frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories.
Overnight in Posada Amazons.

Day 10:

Breakfast. Return to Puerto Maldonado and Departure. We retrace our river and road journey back to Puerto Maldonado, our office and the airport. Depending on airline schedules, this may require dawn departures.
Guides at Posada Amazons. Our guides are biologists, tourism professionals, or community members. Unless noted otherwise, our guides speak English. We assign guides at 10:1 ratio in Posada Amazons. This means groups smaller than 10 people will be merged with other groups under one guide. If you would like a private guide or a guide in a language other than English please let us know.
Boat Transportation. All our boats are 20 foot long, roofed canoes with 55 hp outboard motors. Daily arrivals and departures from every port are scheduled to meet every airline’s arrival and departure with a maximum two hour wait.
